Chapter 4 - 6 Real Talk
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but stereotypes can kill me. There is some truth to this statement, but I'm hoping that stereotyping is on its way out. Personally, I could have been stereotyped growing up. I came from a poor family in a small community. My dad had a 5th grade education, but my mom was a high school graduate. My way older (15 and 13 years older) siblings did not like school, but my younger sister and I excelled. Looking back, I think people might have felt sorry for my younger sister and me because we didn't have the cool things and didn't get to go anywhere. We gained self-confidence through church, singing, reading, and cheerleading. Most people would have predicted or stereotyped us as girls that would marry a hometown boy and remain in the community. We broke the stereotype by going off to college.
I feel a teacher is a coach and vice versa.
The more times you touch a student with a smile, kind look, conversation, or any other form of communication you connect with that student. An administrator must take the time to connect if you want your students to achieve.

Please respond briefly to at least 2 questions in each chapter and express/discuss your ideas
Please briefly respond/blog to the following; (2 or of 3 in each chapter)
Chapter 4
Why is Lesson #6 not "necessarily" true...and give a brief example?
How can you encourage students to "change" their associations?
How do we help students change their values and self-worth? examples, ideas, activities
Chapter 5
Give a brief example of how coaching and teaching can be related and used to help students?
Give examples of basement educators and how to change to balcony individuals (obviously no
names).
Who was your "advocate" and how have they effected you?
Chapter 6
What does "more is caught rather than taught mean to you?
What are some ways educators/admins can insure students are connected to you at school?
Define "genetics loads the gun, but environment pulls the trigger" and if you think this concept can be changed in students.

Chapters 4 - 6
These three chapters were an eye opener to me since I work with younger students. We do have elementary age students who are sensitive to peer criticism, but the majority are not. I loved the term "lyrical swords." I can relate to the influence of a coach through my son. I give some of them the credit for the man he has become. Teamwork is where it is, in my opinion. The individual is only as good as the team. Thank you Lord that I do not have any faculty members on the R.O.A.D. program. In chapter 6, Dr. Brown hit the nail on the head. Our job is all about passion for educating our students and when that fire is smoldering we need to go home. I also loved the quote, "Genetics loads the gun, but environment pulls the trigger." Sometimes I put one of our students in the car with their parents in the afternoon and think to myself the positive school day will be undone before the next morning.
See you all tomorrow.

Chapters 1-3
I hope you have read Chapters 1-3. Please share your greatest "take-away" from these chapters. I will begin...
Real Talk Lesson #5 Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.
Change is going to take place. As admins we can be a part of the change and make sure change is successful or we can ride through our careers to retirement sucking tax payer dollars from our system. I choose to be a small part in continuing to make Gadsden City Schools successful! I will not misuse tax payers funds or ride the system....I want to make a difference in someone's life....
